*SF2HM = San Francisco 2nd Half Marathon
Mon: Rest.
Tues: Easy 3 miles, walked for the remainder.
Stats: 3.3 miles + 30 min stretching/rolling
Wed: 30 min stretching/rolling
Thurs: Similar to Tuesday, except that I added strides in mile 2.
Stats: 3.2 miles + 30 min stretching/rolling
Fri: Rest. Went to the Race Expo.
Sat: 2 mile shake-out run + 30 min stretching/rolling
Sun: Race day! Recap coming soon, but here are the quick take-home messages:
1. I didn’t get my sub-2. Wah-wah. My official time: 2:01:05.
2. I ran a negative split, but mostly because I went out way too conservatively in the first 4 miles. But, hey, at least I didn’t blow up. *small victories*
3. I ran the same pace today as I did for Healdsburg, where I PR’d with 2:00:37. The main difference? I ran a slightly longer race today… which, if I had to guess, would mostly be due to the weaving I had to do to get around the crowds.
Stats: 13.2 miles @ 9:11/mile, ~500′ elevation gain
WEEKLY TOTAL: 21.7 miles + ~1.5 hours stretching.
How I felt about it: I’m wondering if I tapered too much, because my legs did not have any spring in them this morning. I probably should have kept some intensity in my runs. Oh well. B.
Congrats!! Looks like a beautiful run. Sorry no sub 2, but you finished without dying and that’s always good 🙂
Thanks! Yes, not dying is always good. And like I told my boyfriend last night, “Well, at least I didn’t crap my pants!” haha
Great Job, Jen! Can’t wait to run with you sometime soon.
Thanks BT! I’ll send you an email soon about possible races/training runs.
Negative splits on a course with 500 feet of elevation gain…that’s awesome! You’re definitely going to break sub 2 soon, so close! It looks like a fun race but you should sign up for the San Fran Rock N Roll next year!
Thanks Dominick. SF RnR looks cool, but I’m probably going to run the Big Sur International Marathon, which I think is 2-3 weeks after SF RnR. But I’ll definitely be there to cheer you on and to have a celebratory beer with you afterwards! And anyway, I think I’ll sign up for the SF 1st half next year so I can complete the “Half It All” challenge. (The SF 1st half course is very similar to the SF RnR course, BTW.)
Whoa, you ROCKED IT GIRL!!!! Great job! You will HANDLE that first half next year, WOOO!!!! 🙂
Thanks Laura!
I have a love/hate relationship with all of the trial and error that goes into mastering races. The one time I attempted negative splits I also started off too conservatively, and I was frustrated. I like to think of each attempt as one race closer to figuring it all out! You still win for most awesome post-race photo!
I think you’re totally right. It’s frustrating to have to learn these lessons with each race, when all I want to do is PR. haha
