Weekly training recap: 5/21/12

Another gentle week to recover from the Tilden Tough Ten and rest my legs for the Lake Chabot Trail Challenge.

Mon: Rest.

Tues: I was actually feeling pretty good (very little soreness from TTT), so my plan was to run 6 miles. However, right before I left the apartment, I remembered that I’m usually pretty sluggish for my first post-race run. So I decided to go out for 3 miles, then reassess the situation. Sure enough, my legs were like lead. I stopped after one lap around the lake.
Stats: 3.07 miles @ 10:31/mile

Wed: Rest.

Thurs: I intended to do a tempo run: 1 mile warm-up, 4 miles half marathon (HM) pace, 1 mile cool down. Instead, I skipped the warm-up and went straight into 5 miles ~HM pace with less than a mile cool down. Oops.
Stats: 5.8 miles @ 9:43/mile

Fri: Rest. Walked ~2.5 miles in SF… but offset by the millions of calories consumed at Greens restaurant for the Gypsy Runner’s birthday.

Sat: Rest.

Sun: Decided at the last-minute to run the LMJS 4th Sunday Race (5K). I’m glad I went because I ended up setting a new PR! Mini-recap coming soon.
Stats: 3.12 miles @ 8:27/mile (time: 26:25)

WEEKLY TOTAL: 11.99 miles.
How I feel about it: On one hand, this is my lowest weekly mileage in a long, long time. On the other, I set a new 5K PR by 1 minute and 17 seconds without even really planning to. A+
